Safety Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and vinyl gloves.

Note: Use only vinyl gloves; latex gloves will inhibit the curing process.

Storage

Store and use at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures will reduce working and curing times and may shorten the product's shelf life.

Curing Inhibition

Inhibition can occur due to contaminants such as latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur-containing clays, and certain wood surfaces.Test for compatibility in a non-critical area.

Seal the object with a clear acrylic varnish to prevent inhibition. Allow the sealer to dry completely before applying the rubber.

When in doubt, a small test application is recommended to determine suitability for your project.

When working with modeling clays that contain high levels of sulfur, even a sealer may not be sufficient. Perform a small compatibility test before beginning your project.

Clean All Surfaces That Will Come into Contact with Psycho Paint – All surfaces to be painted must be free of contaminants (especially mold release agents). If necessary, clean all surfaces with a solvent (such as NOVOCS™ Zero VOC Solvent, Toluene, Xylene, or Naphtha) and allow them to dry before painting.

Measurement by Volume – The recommended mix ratio is 100 parts A + 100 parts B + 200–500 parts solvent, depending on your application (hand-painting vs. airbrushing).

Adding Color to Psycho Paint™ – Silc Pig™ silicone pigments are compatible with Psycho Paint™. There are various colors to choose from, and you can blend them to create custom colors. The most precise way to add pigment is by weight (using a gram scale). We recommend starting by pre-mixing 2% pigment (by weight) into Part B and blending thoroughly.

Do not exceed a pigment load of 5% of the total weight (A+B).

You may also use powdered cosmetic-grade pigments to color Psycho Paint™; however, a compatibility test is recommended. Adding Solvent – Once the desired color effect is achieved, add an equal amount of Psycho Paint™ Part A.

Next, add 200–500 parts of solvent. Smooth-On’s NOVOCS™ Zero VOC Solvent is recommended. Toluene, xylene, or naphtha are also suitable.

Observe all safety precautions when handling combustible or flammable solvents. Mix thoroughly until the color is uniform (free of streaks).

Applying Psycho Paint™ with an Airbrush – Pour the mixture into the airbrush’s siphon cup or gravity-feed cup. Apply thin layers of paint to the model’s surface until the desired color effect is achieved. Brush Application on a Platinum-Silicone Appliance or Model – Ensure all surfaces are clean. Add the desired amount of Silc Pig™ pigment to Psycho Paint™ Part B and mix well. Add an equal amount of Psycho Paint™ Part A and mix thoroughly. Add solvent if desired. You can then apply Psycho Paint™ using a brush. A common application technique is "stippling."

Important – The pot life of undiluted (solvent-free) Psycho Paint™ is 20 minutes at room temperature.

Curing – Undiluted Psycho Paint™ will cure at room temperature in 2 hours. The cure time can be shortened using heat (an oven or a heat gun). Do not expose to temperatures above 100°C. If heat-curing, ensure that all solvents have evaporated from the model's surface before applying heat.
